Not sure what services you need? Contact me for a free consultation and sample edit at any time. I’m happy to show you my skills and discuss your project. Remember, you are in charge! I am a facilitator, and you choose what suggestions and changes to keep or discard.

I base my prices on the EFA and CIEP recommendations, but I am flexible if you are working on a budget or want a service package. I also offer payment plans tailored to your needs. Contact me for a project-based quote.

Please note that one set of eyes will never catch all the errors and I recommend having your manuscript proofread by a second professional after formatting.

manuscript critique

$500 for up to 70,000 words, $6 per 1000 words thereafter

Do you want to make sure your writing is on track?

A manuscript critique, or assessment, will help you. This is a high-level look at your WIP. I will read your manuscript and give feedback on the strengths and weaknesses—what works and what doesn’t.

I’ll provide you with a two-to-three-page letter as well as two online meetings to discuss your goals and progress. This can be done at any time during the drafting process.

This is where I look at the big picture—what you are saying, and how to say it well. I read your entire manuscript and provide a detailed overview and chapter-by-chapter feedback. I have many free tools and resources to help you at this stage, and I offer online meetings to discuss my feedback and help you integrate any changes into your writing.

I am available for as much—or as little—coaching and input as you desire. The goal is to bring your manuscript to the best level possible and prepare it for line and copy editing.

You will receive a full and detailed developmental letter (up to 25 pages), as well as in-text comments using Microsoft Word regarding the following essentials:

Fiction and Creative Nonfiction (memoir)

  •  World-building
  •  Character development
  • Timeline
  • Point of view
  •  Plot and story arc
  •  Structure
  •  Inconsistencies
  •  Narrative voice

Nonfiction

  •  Language use
  •  Structure
  •  Inconsistencies
  •  Logical progression of information
  •  Authorial voice
  •  Sensitive or trigger topics and language
  •  Target audience

This is where we dive into your manuscript at the sentence and paragraph level. The focus is not so much on what you are saying, but on how you are saying it. In a back-and-forth collaborative process, your language is polished, and your writing will shine. All changes and comments are made in Microsoft Word using Track Changes and are subject to your approval. This process usually takes two to three passes with online meetings to approve or decline suggestions. I offer these as a package rather than separate services because, to me, technical issues such as grammar, spelling, and punctuation (the usual stuff of copy editing) are essential to the flow of words. In this stage, I work with the following:

  •  Flow and readability
  •  Effective transitions
  •  Paragraph and sentence structure
  •  Consistent language usage
  •  Consistent POV and voice
  •  Wordiness and word choice
  •  Redundancies and repetitions
  •  Grammar, spelling, and punctuation
